Event Overview
In June 2026, the fitness world descends upon London for one of the marquee stops on the global Hyrox calendar. Held at the cavernous ExCeL London (or potentially Olympia), this event is a festival of functional fitness. Hyrox is the "Series for Everybody," combining 8km of running with 8 functional workout stations. The London event is famous for its electric atmosphere, with thousands of spectators lining the "Roxzone" and DJ sets pumping music throughout the venue. It is loud, intense, and incredibly rewarding.
Course Details & Terrain
The course layout at the ExCeL is designed for speed but can be a maze if you aren't prepared. The "terrain" is flat, polished concrete covered by the signature Hyrox black carpet.
Each athlete runs 1km, followed by a station, repeated 8 times. The stations are:
- 1000m SkiErg
- 50m Sled Push (Heavy!)
- 50m Sled Pull
- 80m Burpee Broad Jumps
- 1000m Row
- 200m Farmers Carry
- 100m Sandbag Lunges
- 75 or 100 Wall Balls
The biggest variable in London is the heat inside the hall. With thousands of athletes and spectators, the temperature can rise quickly, making the running laps feel much more taxing than an outdoor jog.
Who Should Enter? (Beginners vs. Experienced)
For Beginners: Hyrox is the ultimate goal for the "gym-goer." If you can run 5km and move some weights, you can finish a Hyrox. The "Doubles" category is a fantastic way to start, allowing you to split the workload with a partner. The London crowd is incredibly supportive of the final finishers, making it a non-intimidating entry into competitive fitness.
For Experienced Athletes: For the Pro and Open individuals, London is about the clock. The carpet at the ExCeL is usually "fast," meaning the sleds glide better than at other venues. Elite athletes will be looking to break the 60-minute barrier here. Precision in the Roxzone (the transition area) is what separates the podium finishers from the rest of the pack.
Coach Raye's Race-Day Pro Tips
- The Sled Strategy: The carpet in London can vary in friction depending on how many people have used it. On the Sled Push, keep your hips low and use short, powerful steps. Do not lock your arms out; keep the power coming from your glutes and quads.
- Respect the Roxzone: You will spend a significant amount of time running in and out of the transition area. Don't use this as a rest zone. Keep your trot steady, grab your water quickly, and focus on the next station. Seconds lost in the Roxzone add up to minutes by the end of the race.
- Wall Ball Management: The final station—100 wall balls—is where the race is won or lost. Break them into manageable sets (e.g., 4 sets of 25 or 5 sets of 20) from the very beginning. If you go to failure in the first set, your heart rate will spike so high it will be impossible to recover.
- Running Pace: Your running pace should be approximately 20-30 seconds slower than your standalone 5k pace. If you run too fast in the first 2 laps, the Sled Push will feel like hitting a brick wall.
How to Train for This Event
Hyrox is a game of compromised running. You need to be able to run at a high heart rate immediately after heavy leg work. Raye’s WhatsApp coaching plans focus on "Concurrent Training"—building your aerobic base alongside explosive strength. We include "Compromised Intervals" in your plan, where you'll perform lunges or burpees followed immediately by treadmill repeats. Raye analyzes your station times to tweak your training, ensuring that by June 2026, you aren't just a runner or a lifter, but a complete Hyrox athlete.
