Event Overview
Hyrox London, held in November 2026 at the ExCeL London, is one of the biggest and most atmospheric fitness races in the global calendar. With thousands of athletes competing across the 'Open,' 'Pro,' and 'Doubles' categories, the energy inside the hall is unmatched. The 'Roxzone' (the central transition area) is a cacophony of music, cheering, and the sound of sleds scraping across the floor. As a late-season event, many athletes use London to secure their World Championship qualifying times. The UK crowd is famously loud, making this one of the most motivating environments you will ever compete in.
Course Details & Terrain
The Hyrox format remains standard: 8 rounds of a 1km run followed by 1 functional workout station. However, the 'terrain' of the ExCeL London is unique. The running track is laid out on a concrete floor with a thin layer of sports carpet. It is fast, but it can be hard on the joints. The corners can be tight, requiring good agility and footwork when navigating around other athletes.
The workout stations are arranged logically, but the distance from the Roxzone entry to the specific station (like the Sled Pull or Wall Balls) can vary. The air inside the ExCeL can become quite dry and dusty with thousands of people moving at once, which can affect breathing—a phenomenon often called 'Hyrox Cough.'
Who Should Enter? (Beginners vs. Experienced)
For Beginners: Hyrox London is incredibly inclusive. Whether you take 60 minutes or 120 minutes, the 'finish line feeling' is the same. It’s an excellent way to test your functional fitness in a non-intimidating environment. The 'Doubles' category is highly recommended for first-timers, allowing you to split the workload with a partner.
For Experienced Athletes: For the Pro's, London is about efficiency. Seconds are won and lost in the Roxzone and at the 'edges' of the stations. The focus here is on maintaining a high 'compromised running' pace—the ability to run fast immediately after heavy leg work like the Sled Push or Burpee Broad Jumps.
Coach Raye's Race-Day Pro Tips
- The 5-Second Rule: In the Roxzone, the temptation to walk or grab water for too long is high. Implement a '5-second rule': once you enter the Roxzone, you have 5 seconds to grab a sip or adjust your gear, then you must start your jog to the next station. Don't let the clock bleed out.
- Sled Push Surface: The London carpet can feel 'sticky' depending on the humidity. On the Sled Push, keep your hips low and use short, powerful steps rather than long strides. Once the sled moves, don't stop; momentum is your best friend.
- Wall Ball Focus: By the time you reach the 100 Wall Balls at the end, your legs will be shot. Pick a spot on the wall and don't look away. Break the reps into manageable sets (e.g., 4 sets of 25 or 5 sets of 20) with exactly 3 breaths between sets. This prevents the 'panic' of a large number.
